Handball

The Team Handball was formed from game called handball played in germany in 19th century. The modern handball game was formed by the end of 19th century in northern Europe, primarily Denmark, Germany, Norway and Sweden. The International Handball Federation was formed in 1946. This game is played on a court 40 meters long by 20 meters wide, with a goal in the center of each end. This game is similar like the games basket ball and football. In basket ball there is only 5 fouls allowed, but in handball unlimited fouls are allowed. In two teams, each includes 7 members, where 6 inside the field and one is as goal keeper. It can be compared with bull fight when the time of defending from goal. Straight to straight facing only allowed to defense the ball and this is called as “sandwich”. On behalf of Adolf Hitler’s request this game was played at 1936 Summer Olympics in Belgium and later the sport was removed from 1940 Summer Olympics. After some decades, this game flourished and played as an indoor game in Scandinavian countries. Women’s team was formed in 1975 and played at 1976 Summer Olympics. Since now there is above 166 member federations for handball game, which needs only the team cooperation and so it is called Team Handball.
